
WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Police Department has issued warrants for a hit-and-run suspect who fled the scene of an accident, telling the victim the damage was “not bad,” and that he could not stay because he had illegal narcotics in his car.
According to the police, Robert Jovan Thompson, 33, struck a woman’s car at the intersection of Sixth and Dock streets in late July. Thompson caused the accident by failing to obey a stop sign.
After both drivers got out of their vehicles, Thompson told the victim the damage was not bad. He then told the victim, “I can’t stay, I’m riding dirty,” according to the Wilmington Police Department. fled the scene.
After an investigation, police identified Thompson, a Pender County resident, and charged him with hit and run leaving the scene with property damage, operating a vehicle without insurance, and operating a vehicle without a license.
