WILMINGTON—Residents in the King’s Grant area of Wilmington and New Hanover County are being warned that people posing as Cape Fear Public Utility Authority (CFPUA) employees have been going door to door.

According to CFPUA, at least three reports have been received about “people posing as CFPUA employees” traveling through the neighborhood and telling residents “not to drink the water and that they will be coming back to draw samples.”

CFPUA stated that all of its employees wear badges. The authority also stated that no employee of CFPUA would need to enter a home without advance scheduling for any reason.

Residents who are unsure if a person in their area is a legitimate CFPUA employee can call the authority’s customer service line at 910-322-6550. CFPUA asks anyone who feels unsafe to first call 911.

CFPUA also stated that residents “should not feel any pressure to pay or engage in any water testing,” as the authority conducts its own testing on a regular basis.
