BRUNSWICK COUNTY — A man accused of shooting at two drivers during a car chase from Leland to Wilmington yesterday morning is now behind bars, according to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.

Witnesses told officials the incident began yesterday morning around 9:30 a.m., when 28-year-old Terrell Jamal Pompey became angry after an argument with his estranged girlfriend in Leland. He is accused of firing several shots at the girlfriend’s car while she had several children inside.

After fleeing towards Wilmington, a second car became involved. Witnesses say Pompey fired several shots at the second vehicle near the 1900 block of Oleander Drive. The shots caused damage to that car, however no one was injured during the incident.

The girlfriend was able to flag down police a short time later and give a description of Pompey’s vehicle. Pompey was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Brunswick County, and is being held on a $250,000 bond.

Pompey is charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, possession of a firearm by a felon, assault by pointing a gun, and title IV-D non-support of a child.
