WILMINGTON — A 55-year-old man was injured in a shooting off Dawson Street in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

According to Wilmington Police Department spokesperson Cathryn Lindsay, officers responded to shots fired in the 1400 Block of Dawson Street just before 4:30 a.m.

After officers arrived on the scene, they found the victim inside East Coast Seafood suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim told officers he was riding his bike across Dawson Street when he was struck by gunfire. According to Lindsay, the victim claimed this was a completely random incident. She noted, “a 55 year old man riding his bike is not your typical gunshot victim.”

The man was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The incident is under investigation, there is no suspect information at this time. [mappress mapid=”1070″]
