SURF CITY — Surf City police have joined the Twitterverse.
Police Chief Ron Shanahan announced the new social media platform Wednesday morning. The department had already joined Facebook.
“In an effort to expand our social media footprint, The Surf City Police Department recently launched the official Surf City Police Department Twitter page,” Shanahan wrote in an email. Shanahan went on to note the Twitter feed would be used for “timely, newsworthy information as well as information on police related events, road closures, delays etc.”

The department has been active on the platform since March 22 when it posted about a traffic light issue.
