Local Chapter Collects and Distributes Bras and Feminine Hygiene Products to Homeless and Financially Challenged Girls and Women
Support the Girls (STG) is an international organization, which accidentally began in one woman’s basement as a passion project to donate critical items to women in need. In order to make a local impact as a part of this initiative, the Southeastern North Carolina affiliate of STG collects gently used and new bras to be distributed to girls and women who are homeless and/or financially challenged. On Jan. 19, 2017, a total of 22,800 feminine hygiene products donated by LOLA- a brand for women, by women- will be distributed locally.
“Girls and women deserve dignity, no matter their circumstances in life. The LOLA Company, with their Gives Back program, believes this too. Support the Girls- Southeastern North Carolina is proud to be part of the ongoing initiative,” said Liz Marmaras, local director of the STG Southeastern North Carolina affiliate. “I try to remind myself every day that ‘No act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted’ (Aesop). I want to give back to my community and help promote women helping women.”
Products will be distributed to the following organizations:
The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina (serving Brunswick County, New Hanover County, Pender County, and Columbus County)
Open Gate Domestic Violence Shelter (New Hanover County)
Good Shepherd Home (Wilmington)
Coastal Horizons (Brunswick County)

We are grateful that with the help of our 47 chapters in the U.S. and globally, including our Edwardsville affiliate, and through our national partnership with LOLA, we’ve made an impact by collecting and distributing over 85,000 bras and 300,000 feminine hygiene products to homeless girls and women.”
