WILMINGTON — While UNCW is enjoying a great run so far this season behind high flying dunks, three-point buckets and pressure defense, one soaring Seahawk received national attention following Thursday’s rout over William & Mary.
After playing just 9.4 minutes per game during his freshman season, Devontae Cacok has burst onto the scene as one of the key players in UNCW’s record 16-2 start. The second year, front court player is averaging 13.4 points per game and leads the nation in field goal percentage.
Cacok rocked down five dunks and wound up with his third consecutive double-double behind 14 points and 13 rebounds in the, 101-77, win over the Tribe. The nation’s leader in field goal percentage finished the night hitting 7-of-8 from the floor and is shooting 83.1 percent through 18 games on 108-of-130 field goals.
He was honored late Thursday night by ESPN’s Kevin Connors as his Star of the Night on SportsCenter.
The Seahawks wrap up their two-game home stand on Saturday with a 2 p.m. tip-off against Hofstra. UNCW (16-2, 5-0) has won five games in a row and remain unbeaten at home with an unblemished 7-0 mark.
