SOUTHEASTERN, NORTH CAROLINA — Winter weather is expected to hit the Cape Fear region this Saturday, with temperatures expected to dip into the teens on Sunday. Several area closings are being scheduled this weekend. The following is a list of closings for the region:
Schools
Cape Fear Community College will close all locations, Saturday, Jan. 7.
Ticket Center at Cape Fear Stage (Cape Fear Community College) will be closed on Saturday, Jan. 7.
Brunswick County Schools have canceled all athletic and extracurricular events scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 7.
James Sprunt Community College will be closed for all classes, and events on Saturday, Jan. 7.
New Hanover County Schools canceled all travel for athletics this weekend.
Pender County Schools canceled all school athletic events and activities for Saturday, Jan. 7.
Divine Mercy Academy of Wilmington has rescheduled its planned open house to Jan. 21 at 7 p.m.
Government
Brunswick County facilities will be closed starting Saturday. The following facilities will be closed due to inclement weather:
- Landfill and Convenient Sites: closed Saturday, Jan. 7
- Parks: closed Saturday, Jan. 7 and Sunday, Jan. 8
- Libraries: closed Saturday, Jan. 7
Leland’s debris drop-off site will be closed Saturday.
Leland Cultural Arts Center will not open until noontime on Saturday.
Surf City’s Community Center is closed for the weekend.
Carolina Beach Recreation Center will close on Saturday, Jan. 7.
Carolina Beach public restrooms will be closed and winterized beginning Friday, Jan. 6. They will re-open on Tuesday, Jan. 10.
Retail/entertainment
“Sister Act,” a Cape Fear Theatre Arts production at Thalian Hall in Wilmington, has been canceled for Saturday night. Sunday’s performance is currently planned to move forward as scheduled, but the weather will be monitored. If you have purchased tickets for Saturday night’s performance, call the center box office at 910-632-2285.
Ticket Center at Cape Fear Stage (Cape Fear Community College) will be closed on Saturday.
All New Hanover County ABC Stores are projected to open at 2:00 p.m. Saturday Jan. 7, weather permitting. For more information customers can visit its website at www.newhanovercountyabc.com.
Moores Creek National Battlefield in Pender County announced a change in hours. The park will be open for a limited time Saturday, Jan. 7. The park is expected to open from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., but those hours may change, depending on conditions. The park will have a delayed opening on Sunday, Jan. 8, pending updated weather information. If road conditions have improved, the park will reopen at 12 p.m. Sunday. However, if road conditions are hazardous, the park will remain closed on Sunday. The Holly Shelter Game Land Shooting Range will be closed Saturday, Jan. 7, and Sunday, Jan. 8.
