WILMINGTON — “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” Charles Shulz’s animated holiday classic, will be performed live at Cape Fear Community College’s Wilson Center.
CFCC’s Humanities and Fine Arts Department will adapt the cartoon special using live actors, while live jazz musicians performing Vince Guaraldi’s original score.
“We’re doing the 1965 cartoon, which we all absolutely love, but it has that kind-of-bad single cell animation,” CFCC Drama Professor Jack Landry said. “We’re doing that on stage. So it is awkward and weird and very funny to see actors try to do that.”
Landry said the set and costumes recreate the vintage feel of the original cartoon, “right down to that one kid with the weird shoulders who shows up just to do his ‘Thriller’ dance.”
The performance will also feature local musicians playing the score. “It’s such great music,” Landry said, “and we got really great local musicians in a trio to play it.”
The performance will feature Kevin Kolb on keys, Troy Pierce on drums and Vince Stout on bass.
“A Charlie Brown Christmas” will run for one performance only at the Wilson Center’s Main Stage on Dec. 10 at 3 p.m.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for CFCC faculty, staff and students. Admission for children twelve and under is free, but CFCC requests no more than four children per adult. Tickets are available online or by phone at (910) 362-7999.
CFCC asks guests to join them in supporting Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard by bringing non-perishable food.
