An outpouring of community support continues as donations are adding up for 2-year-old Mason Richardson, who local prosecutors say succumbed to his injuries following a Tuesday morning wreck near Independence Mall.
The family of Mason has set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs for the child. The page was set up on Nov. 1 by Kayla Parker.
Mason died Tuesday after a pick-up truck rear-ended his parent’s vehicle at the intersection of Independence Boulevard and Oleander Drive. The man police suspect to be driving the suspect vehicle faces second-degree murder along with other felony charges.
Prosecutors say Mason’s mother was driving the car with his father in the passenger seat. Mason and his 4-year-old brother were strapped in car-seats in the back. The suspect vehicle reportedly struck the car at about 50 mph.
The story on Mason’s GoFundMe page reads, “my sister has lost one of the biggest pieces of her heart. We need to raise money for funeral costs and to help them get through this hard time. Any amount would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. All prayers accepted as well.”
The page was created on Nov. 1 with a goal to rise $25,000. As of 3 p.m. Thursday, the GoFundMe page raised more than $16,000 by 405 people who donated. The page has also received 17 comments and nearly 6,000 shares.
