BRUNSWICK COUNTY — A South Brunswick High School student faces to sexual offense charges in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred during the school’s homecoming bonfire on Wednesday.
Jibri Ali Ballard, 16, of Galloway Road in Bolivia, was charged with second-degree sex offense and sexual battery of a female victim, according to a warrant issued by Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.
South Brunswick High School administration received information Thursday alleging a serious incident had occurred after the school’s homecoming bonfire, Brunswick County Schools Spokeswoman Jessica Swencki said. School officials immediately took action and involved the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office to conduct an investigation.
Ballard is a junior at South Brunswick High School, Swencki said.
According to an arrest warrant, Ballard is charged with second-degree sexual offense for “unlawfully, willfully and feloniously did engage in a sex offense” with a female victim by “force” against her will. He is also charged with sexual battery in connection with engaging in sexual contact with the victim by “forcing the victim to manually stimulate” his genitals against the victim’s will.
He was arrested Thursday and booked at the Brunswick County Detention Facility under a $100,000 secured bond.
