Sheriff’s deputies investigate threats to Hoggard, Ashley high schools

The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is investigating to threats made to two local high schools, one at Ashley High School on Sunday and another at Hoggard High School this morning.

Faculty and students were evacuated at Hoggard High School for a bomb threat at about 8 a.m. Monday,  according to New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer. The bomb threat was placed by phone at the high school located at 4305 Shipyard Blvd. in Wilmington.

The school made the decision to evacuate students from the building, Brewer said. Deputies arrived and conducted a search of the school. Students have since returned to class safely, Brewer said. First period classes began at 9:45 a.m., according to New Hanover County Schools.

Sheriff’s detectives investigated another threat made to Eugene Ashley High School, 555 Halyburton Memorial Parkway, over social media. The male juvenile allegedly made a threat to bring a gun to school. The juvenile has since been apprehended, Brewer said.
