WILMINGTON – The University of North Carolina-Wilmington will conduct an emergency siren test on Monday.
The full-volume test of the Seahawk Warning Siren System will begin at 12 p.m., Monday, Sept. 12, according to a notice from the university.
There will also be a test of additional emergency communication tools in conjunction with the siren, including email, desktop, phone and text notifications. UNCW is also testing its emergency beacons at CREST Research Park.
The Seahawk Warning Siren System is an outdoor emergency warning tool and may not be audible inside university buildings. No action is required when the siren sounds during the test.
In an actual emergency, students and faculty should immediately take shelter indoors, monitor UNCW communication tools for additional information and wait for an all-clear notification.
Only those students, faculty and staff who have voluntarily registered their cell phone numbers with the university will receive UNCW Alert emergency text messages and voice mails during the test and in actual emergency situations.
