Routes to avoid: Road construction schedules for the week of Aug. 20

Here’s a list of road construction work for Aug. 14 through 20 for Carolina Beach, Wilmington, New Hanover County and Brunswick County.

All information is gathered from the town of Carolina Beach, the city of Wilmington and the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

Town of Carolina Beach

6th Street – access to the 100, 200 and 300 blocks of 6th Street will be limited to residents only. The street’s intersections with Raleigh and Monroe Avenues will also be closed or limited.

Atlanta Avenue – closed from 4th to 5th Streets for construction

St. Joseph Street – expect delays and closures as construction will be done along the street

City of Wilmington

Randall Parkway – intermittent eastbound right lane closures between Marlboro Street and Kerr Avenue for road widening and construction of the Cross-City Trail

New Hanover County

SR 2169 (Fredrickson Road) – closed permanently in both directions near SR 2145 due to construction of the Wilmington Bypass

US 421 (offramp near downtown Wilmington) – nighttime weekday closures on the ramp for Carolina Beach, South US 421, East US 76 and North Business US 17 until Sept. 30 as lighting is installed as part of the Leland Causeway Bridge Project. Motorists heading south toward Carolina Beach should take the exit for Brunswick County Beaches, South US 17/NC 133 and West US 74/76, where signs for a detour will be located.

US 421 (Carolina Beach Road) – nighttime construction between NC 132 (College Road) and Snow’s Cut Bridge until May 2017 for grading, drainage and paving work as well as the installation of signals

Brunswick County

NC 133 (River Road/Village Road) – periodic lane closures for nighttime construction until November 15 to design and build a divergent diamond interchange

SR 1551 (Blackwell Road), US 17 (Ocean Highway) and US 74 (Andrew Jackson Highway) – periodic lane closures for widening of US 17/74/76 from River Road/Village Road to the US 421/NC 133 interchange west of Wilmington
