Man, teen girl charged in January armed robbery attempt

A man and teen girl have been charged with an armed robbery attempt and shooting in the Castle Hayne area in January.

Tashon Darell Hicks, 23, and Dontasia Monet Boney, 17, face several felony charges in connection with an attempted armed robbery on Rockhill Road on Jan. 18, according to New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer.

Four people were in a car on Rockhill Road at about 5:20 p.m., when the suspect vehicle drove up next to them, Brewer said. A female got out of the suspect vehicle and approached the four occupants in the other car. At that time, a male suspect also approached the victims’ in the car and attempted to rob them at gunpoint.

The male suspect fired a shot into the windshield as the victims attempted to back the car away, Brewer said. The shot did not cause any injuries to the victims inside.

After two moths of investigation, detectives arrested Hicks and Boney on Thursday.

Hicks faces several felony charges, including three counts of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapons, three counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling or vehicle, three counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and injury to personal property. He was booked at the New Hanover County Jail under a $250,000 secured bond.

Boney was charged with two counts of aiding and abetting an armed robbery and aiding and abetting a felony, according to jail records. She was booked at the New Hanover County Jail under a $1 million secured bond.
