Two Ashley High School students have earned local and state accolades in the arts.
Senior Kaylie Strickland, a violinist, was recently selected to perform with the North Carolina All-State Honors Orchestra. And visual artist Maxwell Reinbachs took home a top award from a recent citywide painting event.
Strickland was the only student in the local district chosen to participate in the prestigious ensemble this year. She will play second-chair violin in the honors orchestra’s upcoming performance on Nov. 8 at the N.C. School of the Arts in Winston-Salem.
Ahead of the concert, she will have to the opportunity to rehearse along with the best orchestra students from across North Carolina under the guidance of a guest conductor.
Fellow Ashley senior Reinbachs won first place in the youth division of Paint Out Wilmington, an annual plein air art gathering held in October and sponsored by the Wilmington Arts Council, New Hanover County and Wilmington Art Association.
As part of his win, Reinbachs’ artwork was displayed with other top painters during an exhibit in Bijou Park in downtown Wilmington.
