Volunteers are needed to participate in Carolina Beach’s Pier to Pier Beach Sweep this Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

The annual event, which was originally scheduled for Oct. 3 but postponed due to weather, brings people together to clean the main strand of Carolina Beach as well as parts of Kure Beach.

Supplies such as bags and gloves, as well as refreshments of coffee, juice and snacks will be provided for volunteers at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk Gazebo. There will also be raffle prizes and a DJ playing music at the gazebo gathering area.

There will be two lots where volunteers can park for free from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. One is the Palms Lot, located at the corner of Harper Avenue and Canal Drive, and the other is the North End Lot, which is one block from Freeman Park.

While the target area of the clean up is the stretch of beach between the Carolina  Beach Fishing Pier and the Kure Beach Fishing Pier, the actual area covered will depend on how many volunteers are available. Past sweeps have included parts of Freeman Park and Carolina Beach Lake.
