Local law enforcement and fire agencies, along with the U.S. Coast Guard, braved the rain and came together Tuesday evening at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk for National Night Out.
The Carolina Beach and Kure Beach police departments, New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department, Carolina Beach Fire Department and Wrightsville Beach-based members of the Coast Guard set up displays for the public to engage with. Uniformed members of each department were on hand to talk to people and answer any questions. The chiefs of police of both Carolina and Kure Beaches and the sheriff of New Hanover County were also present.
Each agency represented had vehicles for the public to see, ranging from fire engines to the newest Coast Guard boat currently in use, as well as small giveaways branded with their department’s logos. Children were also able to get their face painted, and people of all ages participated in line dancing and interactive games.
The event was part of a nationwide initiative, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, to help build positive relationships between communities and the people responsible for keeping them safe. National Night Out has been held locally at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk for the last few years.
