Sheriff: Checkpoint in Murrayville nets 35 charges

One person was charged with impaired driving during a New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office checkpoint on Friday in Murrayville.

The checkpoint was set up in the 2300 block of North College Road at about 9 p.m., according to New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer.

The sheriff’s office issued 35 charges and made two arrests, including:

  • DWI – 1
  • Drug violations – 2
  • Driving during revocation – 4
  • No operator’s license or other license violations – 5
  • Expired registration violation – 9
  • Safety inspection violations – 4
  • Seat belt violation – 1
  • Fugitive warrant served – 1
  • Other violations – 9

The N.C. Governor’s Highway Safety Program checkpoint was conducted with assistance from officers with Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, Onslow County Sheriff’s Office, Wilmington Police Department, Leland Police Department, UNC-Wilmington Police Department, N.C. Ports Authority Police Department, N.C. License and Theft Bureau, N.C. State Highway Patrol and the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services BAT Unit.
