New Hanover County officials are seeking input from the local skateboarding community on the design of a new skate park to be located at Ogden Park.

A meeting is scheduled at 6 p.m. Feb. 24 at Eaton Elementary School’s multipurpose room for residents to share what they wants to see featured in the skate park’s design. The school is located at 6701 Gordon Road.
The lead designer, from Grindline Skateparks of Seattle, Washington, will be on hand to hear input. Grindline has designed “some of the most exciting, innovative and popular skate parks in the U.S.,” the county said in a release.
Residents are welcome to give feedback on design options for the skate park, which is intended to immediately fill a need for hundreds of avid skaters, especially those in Wrightsville Beach and the northern parts of the county.
The closest skate park to Ogden is the Greenfield Grind Skatepark at Greenfield Lake in Wilmington, more than 9 miles away. Another skate park is located farther away in Carolina Beach.
The county is planning a 10,000- to 12,000-square-foot concrete skate park at Ogden Park, near the intersection of Gordon Road and Market Street. Construction is slated to start this summer, with completion projected this fall.
More information is available on the New Hanover County Parks & Gardens website.
