ymca new logoThe Wilmington Family YMCA is closed today and its after-school program has been moved to another location after a fire was reported on Saturday.

Fire crews responded to the YMCA at 2710 Market St. at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Wilmington Fire Department Battalion Chief Chris Nelson.

Firefighters battled the second-story fire through the night until the fire was put out at about 4:40 a.m. Sunday, Nelson said. The fire, which began in a sauna in the men’s locker room, has been ruled accidental. No injuries were reported in the fire.

According to a notice posted on the Wilmington Family YMCA’s Facebook page, the after-school care program normally held at the YMCA has moved  to the Temple Baptist Activity Center, 709 George Anderson Drive, until Friday, Feb. 13. All children in the program will be given a ride to the activity center from their schools. Parents will need to pick up their children from the activity center on Monday.

The Cape Fear Aquatic Club swim team practice for junior and senior groups will be held at the Wilmington Athletic Club, 2026 South 16th St., 4:30-6:30 p.m. today. All other swim team groups were cancelled Monday.
