NHC to separate senior resource center from parks and gardens department

New Hanover County is cutting in two its parks, gardens and senior resource center department to make the latter its own standalone department.

In a notice released Wednesday, County Manager Chris Coudriet announced plans to reorganize how the department is managed.

“Effective December 1, the Senior Resource Center will be managed and (led) as a separate entity,” the notice quoted Coudriet as saying.

“This change will provide the county the opportunity to move forward with recruiting a director for Parks and Gardens while evaluating the most appropriate long-term organizational placement for our senior resource center.”

Current manager Brenda Brow will continue to lead the resource center, reporting to assistant county manager Tim Burgess, according to the release.

In September, the county dismissed Jim McDaniel as director of the parks, gardens and senior resource center department. McDaniel initially appealed the county’s decision but withdrew that appeal late last week. A notice released Nov. 1 indicated that the county considers the matter to be closed.
