Man charged with attempted murder after allegedly setting blaze

WILMINGTON — A Wilmington man is being held on a $1 million bond after allegedly setting a home on fire and assaulting someone.

Wilmington Police Department arrived at the 1200 block of S. 8th Street on Sunday to find a home engulfed in flames. A female victim was outside and Matthew Baker, 40, was still in the house.

A press release from WPD says two officers pulled Baker from the house and another searched for anyone else in the building on his hands and knees. He found a dog, who he carried out. No one was killed in the incident. The female victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries. She was allegedly assaulted by Baker.

Baker was charged with attempted murder, second degree arson, animal cruitely and interfering with emergency communications.
