There are now more options for submitting child support payments to the state of North Carolina.
The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services announced Wednesday parents can now use Apple Pay, Google Pay, Venmo and PayPal to pay child support. They can also pay by credit or with debit card via phone at 1-855-702-2268, but there is a 2.5% service fee for each transaction.
To use an online payment service, participants must register online.
Payments can also be submitted using cash or debit card at local Walmart stores. To utilize that option, parents must provide their name and Master Participant Index number — a unique code assigned to each child support customer. There’s a $2 fee associated with payments at Walmart.
“We are pleased to help children and families across the state by adding these additional options for paying child support,” Carla West, Senior Director for Human Services, said in a press release. “Our goal is to meet our customers where they are, so they can focus on what is most important — providing the emotional and financial support their children need.”
In addition to the new choices, customers can continue to pay via mail or bank draft. Both traditional methods do not come with any additional fees.
Child support services — including locating non-custodial parents, establishing paternity, setting up financial obligations, collecting and distributing money, and enforcing obligations — are available to anyone needing assistance.
During fiscal year 2021-2022, NC Child Support Services collected nearly $670 million in child support payments.
