Man charged with 2nd degree murder in Brunswick beach town

OAK ISLAND — The Oak Island Police Department found one woman stabbed to death on Minnesota Drive early Saturday evening.

According to a release from the department, a police welfare checkup was requested via 911 around 1 a.m. on Oct. 1. When officers arrived, they found 50-year-old Tina Sedberry Carlton deceased from a stab wound.

Kevin Michael Allen Vaughan, 55, was arrested on the scene and charged with second-degree murder. He is being held at the Brunswick County Detention Center under no bond.

The incident is being treated as a domestic-related homicide, law enforcement noted. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation assisted with the investigation.
