NEW HANOVER COUNTY — A judge has sentenced 50-year-old Gregory Jackson to six months in jail.
In New Hanover County Criminal Superior Court Thursday, Jackson pleaded guilty for soliciting prostitution of a 17-year-old female.
According to a release from the district attorney’s office, the man made “lude comments to and aggressively hugged” his young female co-worker at a local restaurant. He also solicited her to perform sexual acts for money last September.
The victim’s father contacted restaurant management and the New Hanover Sheriff’s Office about the behavior, the release detailed. Jackson admitted his behavior to the managers of the restaurant, who immediately terminated and banned him from the property.
“We often see grooming behavior where offenders attempt to normalize sexual conversation with young people in an attempt to later engage in sexual activity with them,” prosecutor Connie Jordan said. “Most children, and even adults, are not comfortable reporting these experiences; offenders often expect victims to be uncomfortable enough to keep their actions secret and not reach out for help.”
Jackson will have 48 months of supervised probation after his release and if he violates the conditions of the sex offender control program, he will serve an additional 17 to 24 months in prison.
