Weekend shooting victim accidentally shot himself, police determine

WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Police Department wrapped its investigation into a shooting that took place downtown Wilmington on Saturday morning.

It determined 21-year-old Jordin Stimpson accidentally shot himself while in a vehicle at North 2nd and Princess streets.

WPD arrived at the scene at 1:18 a.m., July 30, due to a shots-fired report and found Stimpson on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound. He was transported to Novant’s New Hanover Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The case was being handled by the WPD Criminal Investigation Division, WPD noted in a release.

Stimpson has been charged with discharging a firearm within the city limits and resist/delay/obstruct an investigation.
