From walls to boards: CB Mural Project calls artists for winter art installation

CAROLINA BEACH —  After installing 13 murals on Carolina Beach since launching in 2020, the Carolina Beach Mural Project is now calling for artists to design a project on a smaller scale.

They’re kicking off a Boards Across CB campaign, which will have artists decorate 50 donated surfboards, skim boards, and skate boards. The boards will hang at areas businesses throughout winter.

Artists that apply will provide a sketch and indicate their pursued medium — paint, mosaic, mixed media. Renderings must by nonpolitical and family-friendly, celebrating Carolina Beach through culture, history, flora or fauna, etc.

The deadline for the completed application is Aug. 15 and chosen artists will pick up their boards by early September. They have until early November to complete their designs.

Boards will hang at area businesses and are available for bid by purchasers. CBMP will help artists determine the bid price, and profits will be split between the foundation and artist 50/50.

Boards will be decorated with a QR code, to guide users to information about the artist and his or her inspiration, as well as to the bid and details about the Carolina Beach Mural Project.
