Annual school supply drive takes off ahead upcoming school year

WILMINGTON — Every year before the school bell rings again, Stuff the Bus — a program hosted by Communities In Schools Cape Fear — asks community members to chip in and help provide necessary supplies to classrooms.

For the 2022 year, CIS noted businesses in New Hanover and Pender counties have placed the signature yellow barrels in their offices and facilities to take in donations at large over the next month.

Once the Stuff the Bus live event takes place, Aug. 12-14, the barrels of supplies will fill the yellow school buses parked at six CIS bus stops. Supplies will roll out after volunteers and counselors at both counties’ schools sort items for the public education facilities.

Community members can help by dropping off donations now at any yellow bin (listed below), or visit the bus stops from Aug. 12-14 to load donations. There is also an Amazon Wish List and online donations to CIS Cape Fear are accepted in any amount here.

The organization connects students of all backgrounds, races and ethnicities to resources that help them overcome barriers to a better education.
