60,000 gallons untreated water discharged near Sunset Beach

BRUNSWICK COUNTY — Brunswick County Public Utilities is reporting the second leak of untreated wastewater in two days in the county.

On Tuesday, July 5, around 60,000 gallons discharged into the Calabash Creek, a tributary of the Calabash River, according to the utilities company. An 8-inch sewer force main broke and was discovered around 12:45 p.m. near 1601 Seaside Rd. in Sunset Beach.

It was repaired by 4:30 p.m.
