WILMINGTON — An arrest has been made in a homicide that took place on the southside of Wilmington Saturday night.
The Wilmington Police Department have charged 25-year-old Malik Delquan Jones in the murder of 20-year-old Jakai Dekine. Jones is being held without bond at the New Hanover County Detention Center on multiple charges:
- First degree murder
- Discharging a firearm in an enclosure
- Discharging firearm in city limits
Dekine was killed on June 25 at 10:45 p.m. in the 1500 block of S. 11th Street at Greenfield Street. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
“We are thankful for the dedication and the collaborative efforts of our officers in making this arrest,” Chief Donny Williams said in a statement. “I also want to thank our community for their continued support.”
Detectives continue to investigate the case and request anyone with information contact the WPD at 910-343-3609.
