WILMINGTON — A man from Burlington, N.C., was taken into custody on Wednesday after trying to break into a register at a local Walmart.

Officers responded to a report at 3:40 p.m. about a man using a crowbar to crack open a cash register. Upon arrival to the Wilmington store on Sigmon Road, the police found 52-year-old Bradly Farrar still inside.

Farrar was charged with attempted safe cracking and concealment of merchandise. Police said Farrar also was a suspect in other similar incidents in Walmarts across the region.

He was given a $5,000 secured bond.
