Man charged with DWI after crossing median and hitting vehicle

WILMINGTON — A man has been cited with multiple charges after crossing a median and striking another vehicle Wednesday evening.

Wilmington Police Department responded to a collision in the 3900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway around 8:30 p.m. May 25. According to a press release, 50-year-old Patrick Ray McFann cut across an unprotected median and hit another vehicle.

Two people were in the second vehicle, one walked away unscathed. The other, a female, had to be “extricated by the fire department,” the release detailed; she had non-life-threatening injuries.

McFann sustained serious injuries and was transported to Novant’s New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was charged with DWI, failure to maintain lane control, and traveling the wrong way on a dual lane highway. A warrant also was issued for felony serious injury by vehicle.

This is an ongoing investigation, WPD noted.
