WMPO recognized for Old Fayetteville Road multiuse path

RALEIGH — The 2022 North Carolina Department of Transportation has named 12 communities as finalists for this year’s Mobi Awards. The awards recognize projects within the state that combine multiple modes of transportation.

Winners and honorable mentions of this year’s event will be acknowledged at a May 4 luncheon at the Raleigh Marriott City Center, 500 Fayetteville St. from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization is one of 12 finalists. It is being recognized for the Old Fayetteville Road multiuse path and resurfacing project in Leland.

Aviation, bicycle and pedestrian, ferries, highways, and railroads were all forms of transportation represented within the contest. Project award nominees came from N.C. cities, colleges, and transportation planning organizations.

Winners are selected by judges based on five categories: Rural, Urban, Small Urban, Large Urban and Innovation. Each project was scored according to the levels of economic development, jobs created as a result of the project, improved public health, and other unique contributions to the area. An additional category – Most Voted Project – was also taken into account for this year’s entries.

The public was able to select a winner via online project viewing.

Others interested in attending the luncheon should register here. Additional information can be found on The NCDOT Mobi Awards website.
