NCDOT to begin intersection improvements in Brunswick

BRUNSWICK COUNTY — The N.C. Department of Transportation will have crews upgrading intersections along U.S. 17 in Brunswick County next week. As such travelers should expect intermittent lane closures.

The goal is to improve traffic flow and safety at at Hickman Road and Thomasboro and Pea Landing roads.

Medians will be constructed, and drainage system improvements will be made. There also will be signs and traffic signals added to the areas.

“The roadway will be upfitted with reduced conflict intersections, which reduce the risk of serious crashes,” according to a release from the NCDOT.

Left turns are not an option for reduced conflict intersections. Motorists will need to make a U-turn from a dedicated lane to switch directions of travel.

NCDOT encourages motorists to avoid the areas if possible or otherwise use caution during daily commutes.

The project is due for completion by winter 2023.

Real-time travel information can be located at DriveNC.gov.
