10 DWIs issued at Wilmington checking station

NEW HANOVER COUNTY — Local law enforcement issued at least 91 traffic citations, including 10 for drunken driving, at a checking station at 111 Military Cutoff Road last Friday, according to an NHCSO press release.

The station ran from 9:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. as part of the multi-agency Governor’s Highway Safety Program.

Partnering agencies included New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, Wilmington Police Department, Pender County Sheriff’s Office, Surf City Police Department, UNCW Police Department and Burgaw Police Department.

NHCSO reported the following citations:

  • 10 – DWI (no one was under 21)
  • 1 – speeding
  • 12 – no operator’s license
  • 4 – driving while license revoked
  • 18 – registration violations
  • 46 – other traffic citations

Another multi-agency checking station was held Saturday as part of the N.C. Governor’s Highway Safety Program.

Wilmington Police Department reported the following charges:

  • 13 – DWI
  • 12 – no operator’s livense
  • 5 – driving with livense revoked
  • 12 – registration violation
  • 1 – no insurance
  • 22 – other traffic violations
  • 1 – fugitive from justice arrest
  • 6 – drug citations
  • 5 – child safety restraint
