Burgaw’s Blueberry Drop returns for New Year’s

BURGAW — The annual New Year’s Eve Blueberry Drop will return, live and in person, to celebrate an early welcoming of 2022.

The celebration kicks off at 5:30 p.m. in Historic Downtown Burgaw, with food trucks on site and entertainment by Trial by Fire, a Gastonia-based Journey tribute band. The blueberry will drop at 7 p.m. and the event concludes at 8 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

“The annual Blueberry Drop has enjoyed tremendous success in the last three years,” Cody Suggs, Burgaw parks and recreation director, said in a release. “Last year, due to COVID, we celebrated virtually with viewers across the region as well as Europe!”

The drop is hosted by Pender County Tourism, Pender County Parks and Recreation and the North Carolina Blueberry Festival. It is sponsored by W. O. Grubb Crane Rental.

“This is a family-fun event and we’re pleased to partner once again with the Town of Burgaw and the NC Blueberry Festival on this annual event,” Tammy Proctor, Pender County tourism director, said.
