Police investigating Sunday morning homicide in downtown Wilmington

WILMINGTON, N.C. — Officers heard gunfire at the 0 block on Chestnut Street in downtown Wilmington early Sunday morning. Upon arriving to the scene around 1:30 a.m., they found one person shot.

Police attempted to provide aid, but the 43-year-old male died. The victim has been identified as Jermaine Johnson from Leland, N.C.

Additional law enforcement was dispatched and took into custody two people: 25-year-old Quajon Canty and 22-year-old Naulege Johnson. Both suspects have been charged with first degree murder and possession of firearm by a convicted felon. Bond information has not been determined, police noted.
