Wave Transit offers free rides to the polls on Election Day

Wave Transit will run its regular routes and fixed schedules for free for folks headed to the polls on Tuesday, and will have its Paratransit and RideMICRO programs available to schedule for free. (Port City Daily/Alexandria Sands)

WILMINGTON — Tuesday, Nov. 2, is Election Day in New Hanover County, with multiple municipal races taking place for town and city councils, as well as mayor. Wave Transit announced it will not be charging for either the fixed-route bus or Paratransit services — Port City Trolley and RideMICRO are offered free already — to help riders cast their ballots.

Wave’s board of directors voted unanimously to lift the fares to break down any barriers, including affordable transportation, that may prevent voters from making it to the polls. The buses and the free trolley will run according to fixed routes and schedules. Passengers will need to make advance appointments for the Parantransit or RideMICRO services. RideMICRO operates Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 9 a.m., and  4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
