78-year-old deceased woman found in Wrightsville Beach surf

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH — According to the Wrightsville Beach Police Department (WBPD), officers responded to a call about an unresponsive woman that was pulled from the surf Tuesday night at 11:30 p.m.

 Two bystanders called 911 to report the body. The victim was identified as 78-year-old Sally Merten. Marten was not breathing and did not have a pulse; life-saving measures were unsuccessful. 

Sgt. J. Newberry of WBPD is investigating the case.
