WPD arrest Lumberton man for trafficking heroin, nearly $1M bond

WILMINGTON –– Wilmington Police Department and New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office units stopped a vehicle for an expired registration on Market Street Tuesday evening around 9:30 p.m.

A WPD K-9 unit located a loaded handgun underneath the passenger’s seat. Officers discovered cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, 150 unused heroin bindles, a digital scale, and packaging materials for manufacturing heroin or fentanyl for individual sales.

The amount of raw heroin is enough to supply more than 1,250 individual bindles, according to WPD.

WPD arrested Elhodge Kirby, 46, of Lumberton and charged him with three counts of trafficking in opium or heroin, manufacturing a schedule II controlled substance, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held under a $930,000 bond.
