Two Pender County School athletic programs exposed to Covid-19

PENDER COUNTY — Pender County Schools announced the volleyball and football teams at Topsail High School have halted activities for the time being.

The pause comes “out of an abundance of caution,” according to a release. There have been positive Covid-19 exposures within the programs. No further information has been provided at this time.

Pender County Schools decided two weeks ago that mask-wearing would be optional in the upcoming school year. It also decided that virtual learning will not be offered to elementary school children, though middle- and high-schoolers can choose to take part in the Pender Innovative Learning Academy. Students who enroll in the online learning platform will be committed through the whole upcoming school year and will not have an option to resume in-person learning until 2022-23.
