WILMINGTON –– The Wilmington Police Department has arrested two men in connection with an armed robbery that took place Wednesday afternoon around 5:30 p.m.
Two suspects entered a vehicle and asked the driver for a ride to OPM Pawn on Carolina Beach Road. Upon arrival, a suspect exited the car, spoke with a pawn shop employee, took the employee’s weapon and $200. Shortly afterward the driver dropped the two suspects off.
WPD followed leads to identify the suspects. Officers surrounded a house on the 300 block of Sumter Drive and conducted a callout. Tiree Rone, 35, surrendered without incident. Matthew Moldenhauer, 34, attempted to flee on foot but was arrested shortly after.
Both men are being held at the New Hanover County jail. Moldenhauer has been given 19 charges related to the incident, including second-degree kidnapping, assault on a government official, larceny, and more. He was given a $1,020,000 bond.
Rone has been charged with larceny and was given a $5,000 secured bond.
