Arrest made for 2014 hit and run in Wilmington, suspect had fled to Mexico

WILMINGTON –– The U.S. Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force has made an arrest for a 2014 hit and run that killed the victim.

Edwin Romero, 35, was taken into custody Thursday in Wilmington, according to a news release from the Wilmington Police Department.

Police reported Romero fled to Mexico after the incident and later came back to Wilmington.


Romero is currently being held on a $10,000 secured bond.

The Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force is made up of members from the U.S. Marshals Service, WPD, New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, state Department of Public Safety Special Operations and the Leland Police Department.
