Kure Beach police release name of deceased swimmer

KURE BEACH — The Kure Beach Police Department has released the name of a distressed male swimmer who died on Kure Beach after an unsuccessful life-saving mission on Thursday. William Dial Delahoyde was a 70-year-old Raleigh resident, who passed away after two bystanders pulled him from the water and began CPR.

When New Hanover EMS, Kure Beach Fire and Police Department arrived at 200 block of South Fort Fisher Boulevard, they continued CPR but pronounced Delahoyde deceased on the scene.

The police said in a release the New Hanover Medical Examiner will release his official cause of death.
