Distressed swimmer dies on scene in Kure Beach

KURE BEACH — The Kure Beach Police Department confirmed a distressed swimmer passed away in the 200 block of South Fort Fisher Boulevard.

According to witnesses, two bystanders pulled the victim out of the ocean and began life-saving measures. When New Hanover EMS, Kure Beach Fire and Police Department arrived, more life-saving measures were conducted but unsuccessful. The swimmer was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The police said the investigation is ongoing and will provide more info as soon as the family is contacted.
