Pfizer announces booster likely needed within 12 months of Covid vaccine

The Pfizer CEO announced today on CVS Health Live that individuals who took their BioNTech vaccine likely will need a booster shot within 12 months of dose two.

Dr. Albert Bourla told CVS how long the vaccine lasts remains unknown. “Until yesterday, there was data only about the first 90 days,” he stated.

Bourla confirmed the vaccine’s efficacy decreases over time. He compared it to influenza, which requires annual shots, instead of polio, which is one-and-done.

“I think there will be a need, based on this data, for re-vaccinations,” Bourla told CVS. “We need to see for how often we will need to do that — that remains to be seen.”
