NEW HANOVER COUNTY – Students were evacuated from Forest Hills Global Elementary School Friday after a “suspicious” natural gas odor was detected, according to a New Hanover County Schools press release.
The clearance began around 1:05 p.m. after the smell was noticed.
The New Hanover County Fire Department and NHCS maintenance crews assessed the situation and determined it was safe to return students to class at 1:25 p.m.
Families received notification of the start and end of evacuation through the Blackboard Connect 5 emergency system, the district stated.
