A new bottle shop tapped as a “to-go only” beer store will open its doors this month.
Located at the midtown corner of Wrightsville and Kerr avenues, Hey Beer Bottle Shop will offer customers a chance to purchase their favorite beer releases as single bottles.
Owners Kristy Gomez and Mike Duffy say their retail store will offer “the newest and most interesting craft beer releases from around the globe.”
“We really wanted to put together a store that was based on the way that we like to shop for beer,” Duffy said. “As I’ve gotten older, I find that I am drinking far less, in terms of volume, than I used to. However, my desire to try new brewers and flavor profiles continues to grow. We feel that our shop gives craft beer drinkers a chance to dip their toe in, before taking the plunge.”
The bottle shop will also feature a large number of four-packs and six-packs, as well as larger format bottles and four growler lines. With an opening inventory of more than 400 different varieties, Hey Beer aims to provide a convenient shopping solution in midtown Wilmington.
“We took a look at a map of the city and saw a number of great bottle shops here in the area. At the same time, there did seem to be an opening for this sort of thing here in midtown,” Gomez said. “While we can’t offer customers the chance to sit down and have a drink with us at this location, our goal is to become a destination for fans of craft beer to find their next favorite bottle.”
Gomez and Duffy met in Los Angeles in the accounting department of the 2009 film “Star Trek.” After finding themselves apart frequently due to traveling film productions, the couple decided to relocate and pursue a business that would allow them to build a more stable future.
Gomez, whose first film credit was the Wilmington-filmed TV series “Dawson’s Creek,” suggested the Port City.
“We came to visit and quickly realized that Wilmington was the perfect location for us. It really has a great mix of city and small town. It is also an extremely savvy beer city,” Duffy said.
Duffy and Gomez plan to open Hey Beer Bottle Shop in late January. For more information, visit www.heybeernc.com.
