Checking in with tri-county schools: 30 Covid-19 cases in New Hanover, 8 in Brunswick and 5 in Pender

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — As students returned to the classrooms from spring break, so did middle and high-schoolers resume in-person classes fully for the first time since the pandemic began in March 2020.

New Hanover County schools reported 30 Covid-19 cases over the past week, with zero clusters, according to the NHCS’ public online dashboard. 103 people were directed to quarantine for exposure of the virus in school.

Since Oct. 12, NHCS has reported 887 positive cases total. Here is the breakdown for the week of Apr. 16:

Brunswick County Schools

Brunswick County Schools is reporting eight active Covid-19 cases and 50 precautionary quarantines as of Friday afternoon.

Since Aug. 21, the school system has recorded 416 positive cases overall.

Port City Daily obtains its numbers for BCS through the district’s online dashboard, which is made up of data from the Brunswick County Health Department.

Pender County Schools

Pender County Schools updated its dashboard on Apr. 12 and is showing five Covid-19 cases and 19 quarantines.

The district reports positive cases that are either self reported or learned through the Pender County Health Department.

Since Aug. 1, 546 staff and students in Pender County tested positive for Covid-19. 541 people have receovered.
